“A burglary in progress.” In a press release, the Sheriff’s Office said it has received a call for a “residential burglary in progress” that night, “where a resident had fired shots.”
According to NBC News, Butler reportedly told investigators that he believed the teens were trying to break into house. Butler’s home was not the first one the teens had visited that night, the outlet reported, and one of the teens said that not all of them were familiar with the neighborhood.
The victim. Bosworth was a senior and athlete at Massaponax High School in Fredericksburg, Virginia. He was days away from playing his final lacrosse game, The Washington Post reported, and was scheduled to graduate in a couple of weeks.
Malinda Garcia, Bosworth’s girlfriend, made a post on Instagram to commentate the teen.
“You were the best boyfriend, person, brother, son and friend that anyone could ask for,” she wrote. “I’m so glad I got to share my life with you and learn to love you and cheer you on through everything because you are one of a kind.”
Butler has been arrested and charged with second degree murder. He’s being held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail on no bond.
