When a company launches a sub-brand, it risks the main brand’s products being overshadowed by the sub-brand. This is what happened with Xiaomi and its mid-range brand Poco. Interestingly, CMF wants to replicate this with its Phone 2 Pro. On Monday, the Chinese company introduced a new model that stands out among its direct rivals. It offers incredible value, particularly in a market where prices are soaring.
Specs. The CMF Phone 2 Pro features a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 processor, which some brands use in phones priced over $400. The device also offers a 5,000 mAh battery and a 6.77-inch AMOLED HDR10+ screen with a brightness of 3,000 nits. Its versatile triple camera system includes a 50 MP main sensor, an 8 MP ultra-wide lens, and a 50 MP telephoto.
The phone is clearly a winner, with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage, and six years of security updates (and three years of OS updates). Additionally, it supports an interesting range of accessories, including cases, interchangeable lenses, and wallets.
Pricing. The Phone 2 Pro costs $279. In contrast, with comparable specs, the recently launched Poco X7 was priced at around $350. In fact, $279 mid-range phones are quite rare.

Nothing. CMF is a sub-brand of Nothing that’s now beginning to offer increasingly interesting alternatives.
In 2024, Nothing launched the Phone 2a, which features a Dimensity 7200 processor, a screen with lower brightness, fewer cameras, shorter years of support, and weaker specs. Priced at $349, it still represented a good value. In contrast, the Phone 3a Pro, which has similar specs, is priced at $459.
I must admit that I had to check the price of the CMF Phone 2 Pro twice before writing this post. I thought it was a promotional offer. At just $279, the device offers strong value compared to its direct rivals and positions itself as a more attractive option than some of its Nothing siblings.
A mere exception to the norm? Nothing hasn’t detailed how CMF’s supply chain operates. However, the CMF Phone 1 is primarily manufactured in India. Given the current uncertainty surrounding tariffs, it remains to be seen whether this phone is an exception and if current socio-economic and geopolitical conditions will prevent this pricing in the future.
While I still have to test it thoroughly, I believe I have a clear candidate when someone asks for an affordable phone.
