Another day, another chapter in the streaming wars. Disney and Warner Bros. Discovery have just announced a new subscription bundle that includes Disney+, Hulu, and Max. This new offering is aimed at bringing together two industry giants, an ambitious move that could alarm competitors in the streaming industry.
In a press release, the companies said that the bundle will be available in the U.S. starting this summer via any of the three platforms’ websites. It’ll offer options with and without ads, although no information about pricing has been released yet. It’s unclear whether this bundle will be exclusive to the U.S. or if available in other regions in the future.
Disney and Warner Bros. Discovery Team Up in the Streaming Wars
Jean-Briac Perrette, CEO of global streaming and Ggmes at Warner Bros. Discovery, described the new package as “the greatest collection of entertainment for the best value in streaming.” This new bundle offers users a vast catalog featuring some of the most popular shows on the air as well as live TV.
As you might recall, Max is the result of the merger between HBO Max and Discovery+, offering content from networks like HBO, CNN, Cartoon Network, DC Universe, and more. Disney+ is home to Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, and Hulu, among others. A bundle that offers content from all of those networks for one price is quite an attractive option and worth consideration.
Perrette also noted that this new offer aims to drive subscriber growth, something that Netflix is already achieving in addition to generating positive financial returns. As per Disney’s latest financial results, the company is losing less money than before, suggesting that it’s getting closer and closer to profitability.
As mentioned earlier, there’s still no official information on how much this new bundle will cost. However, we can assume that the price will be lower than paying for each service separately. The companies invite viewers to stay tuned as they’ll share more information “in the coming months.”
