Flags at half-mast. Rockstar has officially announced that GTA VI, the most anticipated video game of recent years, won’t arrive until May 26, 2026. In other words, gamers still have more than a year to wait.

The studio shared the news via a statement on X. Rumors about a delay had circulated for months, and Rockstar has now confirmed them.

The game was initially set for a fall 2025 release, but Rockstar says it needs more development time. That fall window seemed unrealistic, and the company chose to protect itself.

“We are very sorry that this is later than you expected. The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team. We want to thank you for your support and your patience as we work to finish the game,” Rockstar said in its statement.

“With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception. We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve,” the company added.

The announcement lands just days before Rockstar’s parent company, Take-Two, plans to release its financial results on May 15. Since dropping the first and only trailer in December 2023, Rockstar hasn’t shared any new information about GTA VI.
